Squuuuuuuueeeeeeee how freaking cool is this cape?!

Most of the prompts for the Restyle Photo A Day challenge are subjective enough for you to be able to work them back into your own wardrobe, but I was quite anxious about the statement prompt. As you can probably tell, my style revolves around muted and dark tones in simple well cut shapes, so my version of #statement could very well be your version of yawnsville. But when I saw this Little-Red-Riding-Hood-cape it screamed WOW to me.

How now brown cow!

Maybe it was all the royal baby hype over the last couple of weeks but this outfit and very regal looking chair left me feeling like I was posing for the Queens portrait. Although, I highly doubt the Queen would be slouching like that.

This amazing maxi skirt is from the RSPCA Palmyra Society Store and I have to say, I’m quite taken with it. I’m looking forward to the next cocktail event that I’m invited to, I’d love to team it with a strapless bustier of some description.

Top: Bardot

Balmain did it, Michael Kors did it and Alexander Wang did it. They all featured monochromatic black and white in their 2013 Spring Summer collections. It’s such a suit-all trend and so easy to pull off.

Both my peplum top and Bardot leather look pants are from the RSPCA Port Kennedy store which stocks a really huge range of high quality pieces. During my visit there was heaps of leather and knitwear, oh and one amazing metallic Asos jumpsuit which didn’t quite fit me. So ladies I highly suggest you pop in for a visit, that jumpsuit still might be there!

Restyle Day 18 – Less than $10

So here’s the thing, the RSPCA Society Stores are dirt cheap. I’m talking $0.50 accessories, $2 jumpers and $10 pants. And some of those still had the tags attached.

This is the beautiful thing about charity op-shopping. They’re not in it to make a profit. Yes, they want to make money but they’re sole purpose is to give back to the community so high prices are not a factor.

My outfit today consists of a Sportsgirl knit and Massimo Dutti pants, two top quality pieces for under $10!

Knit: RSPCA Bibra Lake, $3
Pants: RSPCA Palmyra, $6

I feel like I need to take a minute and just talk to you all about the quality of stock that the RSPCA Society Stores have. Not only did a good portion of the bits and pieces I picked up still have their original tags attached but everything in the RSPCA stores are of the highest pre-loved quality. The Palmyra society store is where I picked up the jacket in my neon prompt, it’s also where I found a huge amount of pre-loved Witchery, Zara and Sportsgirl clothing – don’t let anyone ever tell you that opshopping isn’t worth it.

Restyle Day 16: Opshop Love

This dress was my most expensive buy during Restyle but the prompt is Opshop Love so I figured it was worth it. The beautiful navy blue Bianca Spender dress drapes so perfectly across the body and there was something about the muted hue that made me want to pair it with a bright lip.

Uncomplicated dressing like this is really what I strive for. A statement piece that you can work your shoes, bag and accessories (or lack thereof) around.

Lips: Nars Schiap

Restyle Day 15 – Leather

Leather is the sexiest fabric in the history of the universe. And this buttery soft, mustard yellow bomber is no exception. It’s a little worn around the edges but that’s just how I like it.

RSPCA WA

When I tell people that I’m involved in this years Restyle Campaign and I’m blogging exclusively for the RSPCA, I usually get a blank stare back. What do you mean RSPCA? You’re shopping in a pet store?

Well the truth is that I didn’t realise the RSPCA had op shops either. There are 4 Society Stores around Perth which sell a combination of clothing, shoes, accessories, furniture, antiques and other second hand items.

I was lucky enough to take a tour through the RSCPA Care Centre in Malaga last week, I met some of the amazing rangers who dedicate their lives to helping animals in need, and of course, I got to snuggle some four legged friends. I also got the chance to hear about how all proceeds from the four Society Stores go towards helping disadvantaged and abused animals that the RSPCA works so tirelessly to take care of. That includes all medical costs, food, blankets and rehabilitation costs.

While I was at the Care Centre I got to speak with Tim, Media and Communications Manager and Clare, Marketing Coordinator. They told me the heartbreaking but uplifting story about Trevor, an 18-month-old white Staffordshire bull terrier cross that was found in an suburban backyard. Trevor was not only starving and seriously underweight, he was also deaf.

Within two weeks of being in RSPCA care, Trevor had gained 3.5 kilos and was well on the way to recovery. Now he has been re-homed into a loving family, weighs a healthy 20.6 kilos and is undergoing specialist training with RSPCA involving the use of hand signals and other specialist techniques.

Trevor before Trevor after

Trevor the dog’s story is just one of hundreds of cases of horrific cruelty and neglect the RSPCA investigates each year and that is why the charity needs the support of the community. As well as funds generated from the Society Stores, RSPCA’s annual fundraiser Cupcake Day, is designed to help raise much-needed funds to help dogs like Trevor lead a fulfilling life.

The concept is simple – during the month of August you can hold a cupcake day event at your workplace, at home or with your friends with every dollar going to help animals like Trevor. You can register online at www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au.

The Care Centre is also in desperate need of newspapers, shredded paper and blankets to help with the large number of animals currently in care. These can be dropped at the RSPCA Care Centre in Malaga and if you have any queries please call RSPCA staff on 9209 9323.

I picked this wool jumper up quite a few weeks ago from the RSPCA Palmyra store and I’ve worn it a million times already. For this challenge, I knew I wanted to wear it with these Natasha Gan wide leg pants that have been in my wardrobe for a few years. There is something about androgynous dressing that always catches my eye. Loose fit lines that don’t hug the body but are teamed with pair of sexy heels is incredibly sexy!
